As part of the EU Sustainable Energy Week activities, the Malta Intelligent Energy Management Agency will be organising an information workshop entitled “Bringing the European Energy Award to Malta”. The event will take place on 15 Friday June 2012 at the Corinthia Palace Hotel in Attard. The event aims to explain the process, and the progress made in Malta to date, in having towns and cities receive the European Energy Award – eea®. This is in fact a methodology which rewards cities and towns with a label for outstanding efforts in the governance of energy related fields (especially energy efficiency). Thus, the main target audience are the representatives of local councils committed to reaching or even going beyond the “20-20-20” EU energy policy targets, but also other energy market stakeholders, including consumers, that want to contribute to driving their localities to such targets. This information workshop is organised in the context of the MEDEEA transnational project co-funded by the European Commission under the MED programme. The project addresses one of the main weaknesses of the MED i.e. an energy level lower than the EU average. The project promotes the take up of a common tool for energy planning across the Mediterranean, as means to increase efficiency thus reducing both greenhouse gases emissions and the costs of energy consumption. Energy planning is also key to promoting and stimulating the use of renewable energy sources, which does not only bring environmental benefits but brings along also technology innovation, economic development, and a new qualification of the workforce. Participation in the event is free of charge. However, due to limited seating capacity, prior registration is needed. To register, please send an email to diane.cassar@miema.org specifying the name, occupation, email address and/or telephone number of the person attending the event.
